Hospitalists, or inpatient specialists, are physicians who specialize in the care of hospitalized patients. A hospitalist works at the hospital full time, providing you with the kind of personalized, one-on-one care that you would normally get from your primary care physician.
All of our Mease Countryside, Mease Dunedin, and Morton Plant North Bay hospitalists are highly trained and board certified in Internal Medicine. Because the hospital is in their home base, your hospitalist is familiar with the specialists, staff and technicians who will participate in your treatment, making for seamless communication and coordination of care.
Your hospitalist will see you every day, and more often if necessary. You will be closely monitored during your hospitalization, and your hospitalist will be accessible in the event of an emergency.Your hospitalist is able to stay in close touch with you and your family and coordinate care with consulting specialists. They will strive to answer all questions honestly, considerately and in plain language.
When you are admitted to a Morton Plant North Bay or a Mease hospital, your primary care physician will inform the hospitalist of your condition and share your records and other relevant information. While in the hospital, your hospitalist will communicate frequently with and act on behalf of your primary care physician. They will work together to develop a treatment plan for you and a plan for your discharge. The hospitalist will contact your primary care physician to ensure a smooth transition of care after you are discharged from the hospital. This includes any necessary follow-up care and any medications you need to take.
